I think writing is a talent. Some people have it and some people don't. I think a person can get better at it by practicing, but writing is a very difficult thing for most people to do well.

Ten inventions that changed the World

http://science.howstuffworks.com/innovation/inventions/10-inventions-that-changed-the-world9.htm

Very interesting article on how 10 inventions have changed the world. After reading the article and thinking about the 10 things, I can't imagine life without any one thing mentioned in the article.

What is the friendliest destination on the planet/

http://adventure.howstuffworks.com/friendliest-destination1.htm

This talks about different reasons why Denmark is considered to be one of the friendliest places on the planet. I can't imagine this when they have the highest taxes in the world. Sixty to Seventy percent of their wages go to taxes. So basically, everyone makes the same amount of money. I don't know how this could make you friendly. I know you probably are thinking, money isn't everything. True, but to those who have worked hard to get the positions they have, there should be some type of higher compensation for all their hard work. I guess if you have never been anywhere but Denmark and this is all you know, then maybe it doesn't make a difference to them. There is no way I would work there.

Do violent video games create real violence?

This article discusses how violent video games may cause violent behaviors. I personally think if a person has any violent tendencies then, of course, it would cause more violent behaviors. Some people who are already violent do not need to be involved or play violent games. It just gives them more reasons to have violent tendencies. What do you think?

Should Parents have access to students grades?

http://www.edutopia.org/parent-access-student-grades#comment-89633

What do you think of this question? I say of course they should have access to their children's grades. How else are they to know how they are doing gradewise besides having to call and bother the teachers on a daily basis.

classroom management strategies for Elementary Teachers

http://www.edutopia.org/blog/classroom-management-strategies-elementary-teacher#comment-89849

This was not only a comical article, but also so true. Shares ideas on those last minute hard to decide how to answer questions that can occur before, during, or after lessons. It has some very good advice in it. It's funny because all the sample scenarios that are targeted in this article, I think almost all of us have encountered.

Teaching multiplication is so difficult. You can see the frustration in the students faces when trying to master it. I say the more ways we have to teach it, the more successful students will be at mastering it because of all the different learning styles.

Nigerian man jailed for cursing on Facebook

Another person, along with the student who insulted the teacher on facebook, who could claim freedom of speech. But again, it does not work that way. It never ceases to amaze me how people go on social networks and post things that end up getting them in trouble.

http://gizmodo.com/5745977/remembering-the-challenger

I realize that most of you do not remember this and were probably not even born yet, but the images of the challenger blowing up are still very vivid in my head. I remember watching as the Challenger took off, and feeling the excitement for the first teacher to ever enter space. I remember thinking about all the school children who were watching, especially Christa McAuliffe's first grade class. As everyone watched in awe, then the Challenger exploded right in front of our eyes. It was horrifying, to think of the lives that were lost and the trauma of all the children who were watching that day in their classrooms. The diverse group of astronauts will always be remembered. Read and watch this heart wrenching video.

Blind Man Drives at the Daytona International Speedway

Amazing story on how technology helped a blind man drive at the Daytona International Speedway using a glove using tactile feedback for him to read his surroundings. He not only drove around the tracks a couple times but also avoided obstacles while driving. It is amazing how technology is changing all facets of society.

This is a very interesting article. It is on the opening of a Computer History Museum that has many interesting historical items that have been used in the past that have paved our way to where we are now. The videos are very interesting, but make sure you have a good hour on your hands. Believe me once you start taking the tour and watching the video you will be hooked and it will be worth your while.

How Egypt switched off the internet

http://www.google.com/reader/view/#stream/user%2F03046234782051631792%2Fstate%2Fcom.google%2Fbroadcast

Very interesting article how Egypt shut off all communications via internet in a matter of minutes. Shows us just how much we depend on technology and how much control governments have on an entire country.

The new Generation

Do you sometimes feel that when it comes to technology the kids seem to know more than you do? I sometimes feel intimidated when a child says "Mrs. Lapham can you help me I can't figure out how to .....?" So I then go to help, and I troubleshoot different things, then another student will come up behind me and say, "Oh, I know how to do that." I look at that student and think of their age, then look back at my childhood when I was that age, when manual typewriters were in. I think to myself, do these children know how lucky they are?

I am with you. Sometimes I feel very overwhelmed, but then it comes to me and I think why was I getting so frustrated. I think that is what technology is all about....frustration and learning.

Technology in the Elementary School

Does everyone have a technology teacher in their school or do you have to teach technology yourself? Our school does not have a technology teacher, therefore, all classroom teachers are responsible to incorporate technology in their classroom themselves. For some it is not an issue, for the older teachers who do not like change, they really struggle with it. What is your input
