Jill's Blog: Alternative Ways to Standard Multiplication

Jill's Blog: Alternative Ways to Standard Multiplication: "Just checking out some new videos on Teachertube. Came across this one on multiplication. I’m always looking for new methods to teach fourth..."

Teaching multiplication is so difficult. You can see the frustration in the students faces when trying to master it. I say the more ways we have to teach it, the more successful students will be at mastering it because of all the different learning styles.

  1. I teach high school English, but I did my podcast assignment (last week) on a "trick" for multiplying by 9s, without using a calculator. Someone taught me this trick in school and I used it all the way through.

I posted a link to my podcast on my blog last week if you're interested. You probably already know the trick. It's the one where you put all 10 fingers out in front of you and do the multiplication that way. :)
